The place to find and share independent music. From hip-hop to pop, dubstep to drum n bass; Beatnik is your filter.
Old video now from Michael Kiwanuka back mid last year, but we still can’t watching.
With his new album dropping 26th of February, he’s been picked by everyone as one of the rising stars of 2012.
Oh we full heartily agree too by the way.
Another tight video and track from Huddlesfield’s adopted mayor Asaviour. Featuring Gen Uchiha it’s one of the tracks off his highly anticipated Play Win Vol3 (Adapt or Die) mixtape dropping 25th of February.
We love the visual definition ideas too.
Video by Paul Cockcroft and Sholto Smith.
We can’t get enough of new hip hop grew — Clear Soul Forces.
Representing Detroit, ‘Get Know Better’ is their first single from their debut Detroit Revolution(s) Produced by KanKick and dropping in March.
With a nice hunger for simplicity, a head-jerking beat and dope rhymes, this laid-back beauty draws comparisons to Souls of Mischief and that whole late 90′s flavour.
Check their facebook for more music and watch out for a feature with the crew soon.
For those who still don’t know about Friends and their sensual, provocatively percussive pop you need to know.
They are the coolest thing to come out of Brooklyn since high top fades and back last October dropped ‘I’m His Girl’ and ‘My Boo’.
The opening drum to single ‘I’m His Girl is a dream and the accompanying video is beautifully shot too.
We hope to see a lot more in 2012.
You’re gonna be seeing a lot of Jess Mills in 2012.
The oldskool flavour of her new track ’Pixelated People’, produced by Sam Frank, with hints of jungle and drum n bass, send this tune over the edge.
You can download her other track ‘A Forest’ for free here.
James Blake’s Joni Mithcell-cover, ‘Case of You’, has been matched with a nice video.
Arcade Fire just released pretty visuals to their song ‘Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)’.
The new jack swing-fanatic Krystal Klear drops a new video featuring Olivier Daysoul. Shouts to Eglo Records.
This is the first video from exciting new artist Gabrielle Aplin for her single ‘Home’.
Taken from her first EP of the same name, Gabrielle’s style of folk is both calming and mature beyond her young 19 years, yet it still manages to hold a delightful entrapping innocence.

The Mob, a performance duo that tours seemingly uninterruptedly, just put out a nice video to ‘Red Swan’ directed by Milad Alami. Reminds us of this.
Nice video from Two Inch Punch for ‘Love You Up’, of his self-titled EP on PMR.
A lot of hype around Igggy Azalea… Is she a gimmick, the product of the corporate music machine or someone of real substance, with real credibility? We’ll let you decide..

Episode 1 sees dubstep king and one third of Magnetic Man, Benga, take charge with vocalist Youngman.
You know at beatnik we have had an eye for the next big artist. Well Marlon, once part of Mattafix, is returning to the lime light as a solo artist.
His music, a mixture of reggae roots, hip hop and soul all with that homegrown flavour, tends to touch the right spots.
And with the catchy and uplifting ‘Riding Home’ we are sure he will reach pop success.
Our favourite Jazz/downtempo outfit Portico Quartet are back and in light of a pending new album release the magnificent ‘Ruins’ on free download.
Their return is, surprisingly, more than the usual climatic beauty we have come to expect. With ‘Ruins’ taking a slight detour from contemporary jazz meanders through pensive sax and sublime percussion centred around a infectious trip hop influence.
