The place to find and share independent music. From hip-hop to pop, dubstep to drum n bass; Beatnik is your filter.

LuckyMe, the Glasgow label that’s home to Mike Slott and other electronic music wizards, has a nice advent calendar going in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Yesterday’s download was this track by Hudson Mohawke and Nadsroic from the latter’s EP Room Mist. Head here for more treats.

Apparently Blackstar are working on a tribute mixtape to Aretha Franklin. And they just dropped a single. Interesting…
Blackstar: You Already Knew ft. Aretha Franklin
Slept on this last week. yU, one third of Diamond District, dropped a beat tape.
The Troumaca tribe are Sam Baylis, Geoffrey Foulkes, Tom Gregory, Matthew Campbell, and Jim Nayak.
As we look forward to their highly anticipated EP entitled The Gems, the boys from Birmingham drop ‘Sanctify’ from the project as a free download (via the player below). And oh how nice it is!

Electronic wizard Two Inch Punch dropped ‘Luv Luv’ a while ago. Initially only as white label 12″, he recently made it available as a free download (via player below).
A bubbling and catchy 2step track that gets better with time, its off his new self-titled EP out on PMR.
New producer Alecks Auclair is someone we really feel you should check out. Having previous posted his Senzu mixtape, we were immediately converted to his music.
Music crafted from a love for chilled hip hop and minimal electronic touches – his sound stirs towards thought provoking and blissful landscapes.
Now he has just released his Leaving EP for download (here), and best yet you can name your price. So potentially its free, but if you’re a fan we recommend you support this aspiring cinematic talent.
Having blogged about his brilliant single and video ‘City Lights’ we thought we’d remind people of exciting new talent ItsNate.
Recently gaining recognition from Giles Peterson as someone to keep you’re eye on, ItsNate (along with Piff Gang) is representing a new energised wave of British hip hop. One with chilled flows and beats but unique homegrown swag.
Download his brilliant mixtape, and be sure to check gems ‘Tower Blocks’, ‘Slondon’ and ‘City Lights’.

2010′s Brainfeeder debutant Teebs, who we interviewed last year, is putting out a new project called Collections 101 on 8 November; not exactly an album, but far from a mixtape, it would seem.
“The vibe I want people to be sent off with is a feeling of going out and buying some kind of rare library record they always wanted and not a ‘new album/EP’.”
Stream or download a track from the project below.
Teebs: Cook, Clean, Pay the Rent (New House Version)Stones Throw just dropped a joint off MED’s album Classic, which we reviewed not long ago. Produced by Madlib and featuring Steve Arrington.
M.E.D.: PrivacyPiff Gang are our new guilty pleasure.
They’re taking you back to those days when hip hop crews ruled. Those golden days when connects like Ruff Riders and Wu-Tang and earlier RUN DMC, where king. A sense of hip hop community that has been lost in the solo cut throat aspiration of rappers today.
What’s more, Piff Gang have an addictive laid back style. A london crew, their beats nurture an oldskool hip hop flavour, while their spitting goes further incorporating electronic influences like garage and grime. As a result this is a unique first mixtape showing something very special is brewing.
Download the mixtape here, ‘Little Mexico’ is a highlight. For more info hit up their blog.
Piff Gang: Little MexicoOne of the most thrilling Hip hop crew in recent times, Delusionists have been working on their exciting new project — Lost Letters. In the same pulsating vein as their debut album Prolusion Plus, they have been teasing out a string of tracks from the promising release. Two in particular caught our ear.
‘Elevator Music’ (below) is a chilled and uplifting jazz fused track while ‘Lost Girl’ is a beautiful instrumental beat inspired by a female coming into your life and then disappearing just as quickly as she arrived.
Download both for free at Delusionists website or below.

Gonjasufi will drop his EP Ninth Inning as a free download next week. Blu, whose beat tape we posted yesterday, is also on the track.
A Brilliant mixtape on free download sent to us by a 23 year old California beat producer called Alecks Aucliar. Exploring and remixing super chilled hip hop, glitch and electronic this is one to really invest alone time in.
You can find more goodness like this from his facebook and Soundcloud.

Californian emcee Blu, apparently going under the name Godlee Barnes for this project, just put out a beat tape dedicated to Norman Rockwell. Buy it for a measly $5 below.
‘First’ is a beautifully, dreamy track that is the result of exciting partnership between upcoming duo Shura and cinematic electronica wizard Hiatus.
Taken from a soon to drop collaborative EP, Shura have refined their sound over the last year or so to what now feels like mesmerising perfection.
Their greatest asset is to fuse folk, hip hop and electronic influences into seamless one.
