To celebrate its 15th year, the DJ KICKS compilation series from K7 Records has brought on board non other than the founder of the highly influential Hyperdub label and DJ supreme, Kode9.

Serving to emulate his sets, this brilliant mix is regularly tribal, minimalistic and fast-paced in sound. Spanning the last couple of years of popular dance music, Kode9 presents 31 old and new tracks bringing us quite unpredictably and refreshingly a compilation not solely concerned with dubstep. You’ll find the glorious ‘Different Lekstrix‘ by Mr Mageeka, forthcoming on Numbers, something to go mad too. While other great sounds including UK funky from Ill Blu (Bellion), Mujjava’s tribal Pleaze ‘Mugwanti’ and a double helping of great tracks from Sticky, will having you bouncing.

Broken beats and grime make an appearance, with Terror Danjah’s ‘Stiff’ bound to make your head nod, but of course the compilation also holds Hyperdub artists Ikonika and Cooly G. There’s also new material from the man himself  with ‘You Don’t Wash Dub’ made exclusively for the mix. To enjoy the full Kode9 experience, this mix is best listened to as your winding down soundtrack after ideally a super cool Kode9 DJ set.
